Richard Gotfried, your UCP candidate for Calgary-Fish Creek
During this time, Richard has served his community in a wide-variety of roles from leadership of local Beavers and Cubs to being a board member with the Calgary Midnapore Conservative Association, the Calgary-Fish Creek Progressive Conservative Association (most recently as President), and on the executive of Calgary-Northern Hills Progressive Conservative Association.
“Working within the community and giving back to a neighbourhood I love and the incredible city I was born and raised in is my passion,” Richard says, noting he has lent a hand whenever and wherever he can – whether that’s cheering on his daughters sports activities, managing his two sons’ Axemen lacrosse teams, acting as manager/webmaster for high school volleyball, creating an innovative partnership with Trico Centre or actively raising funds for the Kids Cancer Care Foundation.
Richard has made the spirit of giving a priority in his business career as well, from most recent role as Vice President Affordable Housing Initiatives at Trico Homes or during his stints at Calgary Economic Development as Vice-President of Corporate and Community Engagement or Hong Kong-based Cathay Pacific Airways as Regional Manager for the Prairies.
“I am passionate about people, about bringing them together, and combining creative thinking and innovation in a highly collaborative way? “ Common sense, compassion and a consultative approach are Richard’s way of getting things done, while he is noted for being a persistent advocate for priorities, initiatives and causes he believes in.”
“I’ve decided that now is the time for me to give back to a community that me and my extended family (2 other family members are also community residents) have been blessed to call home” says Richard, “and I plan to represent the community and its people, institutions and businesses with the same energy and rigour I bring to everything that I do.”
Richard brings a wealth of business experience to his role in government, including valuable international insights. With a Jewish father born in Poland and raised in Shanghai, a third generation Irish-Canadian Registered Nurse mother who helped establish a UN supported public health service in Thailand and an elder brother born in Hong Kong, Richard has deep roots in Canada and a depth of experience on the global stage. He also spent five of his childhood years in Lagos, Nigeria and is no stranger to adversity, having lived through the 1968 Biafran bombing of Lagos, escaping the sinking of the Sun Vista cruise ship in the Straits of Malacca in 1999 and surviving the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami in Phuket, Thailand!
Richard studied economics and political science at the University of Calgary, completed an Executive Management Program at the University of Hong Kong and holds a certificate in Corporate Community Involvement from Boston College’s Centre for Corporate Citizenship.
Richard and his wife Cathy and 3 children reside in the community of Parkland.
